Some Stuff I Did for Class

Had some warm ups I did on a quick value scale as well as practicing different kinds of line and hand movements. Also did some feet and hand studies today for class. Most are 1 and 5 min gestures. Last one was a one hour figure, and still didn't have enough time to finish and polish it.

Newest Additions to my Art Book Library

Just got these three beauties yesterday and I have to say that I'm very happy with all three books. Batman Animated takes a look into the concept art, character sheets and storyboards for the Batman animated television series. If anything, the storyboards are the real trophy in the book. Absolutely can't be missed if that's what you're into seeing.
Bruce Timm is the artist behind the character designs for Batman, Justice League, etc as we know them in the television show. The book is basically one long interview with the artist and it's interesting to see his other works outside of the DC universe.

Now here's my favourite book out of the bunch that I received (even one of my favourite books out of my whole library). The marvel works from Marko Djurdjevic are in this beautifully laid out and thick book. Print quality is amazing on his paintings and sketches and to sweeten the deal, he provides commentary and critiques on most of the pieces. This is really a fantastic book showcasing a very very talented artist. I'd definitely recommend anyone to pick this one up.

New Drawing for the Day

Went to the coffee shop today to get some reading and drawing done. Unfortunately I got in more reading than the latter. Pulled up a quick pose and got this down significantly faster than all the other poses I've done so far. Which either means I'm getting better at this or I'm just becoming very comfortable with the contrapposto pose. It's good news either way but I should be pushing myself to more challenging poses that I've never done before.

Class Drawings

Just some pre-class and during-class drawings I did today. Nothing new and no new epiphanies either

Sigh

Did this drawing for today, started out great until I got to the shoulder area. Just couldn't figure out the pose of the arms. Good thing is that her arms don't look dislocated anymore though...might retry this one again in the future but one thing's for sure. I don't work well at home. Coffee shop, here I come tomorrow.

Artists Who Inspire Me... Part I

All of these artists pretty much speak for themselves but I've added some commentary on why I appreciate them so much.

1. Alex Ross
A master at watercolour who I appreciate for depicting through his art, the humane quality to superheroes that we rarely ever see. I don't think anyone can mimic the watercolour mastery that Alex Ross has.

2. Zhao Ming Wu
What can I say, he sees colour where others don't. His paintings and charcoal pieces are absolutely beautiful to look at. He creates a perfect balance between exaggeration (through colour) and realism.

3. Frank Frazetta
I regret to say that I've only come to appreciate just how amazing and influential Frazetta really is. His plays on lights and darks are amazing the way they bring your eyes to the attention he wants to draw you to. His colouring combined with his strong anatomy easily crowns him as a master of our time.

4. Juanjo Guarnido
Another master at watercolour. His paintings are beautiful, yes, but what really draws my attention to his work is how his characters are given another dimension to them by attributing animals with anthropomorphic qualities and vice versa. I love how you can immediately identify a character just by looking at them.

5. Kekai Kotaki
Granted that sometimes he leaves his pieces a little..'raw,' I still love kekai's character designs and use of colour. He is one of the main reasons why I want to go into conceptual art for entertainment design.

...and After

...and now after I realized how important each line I put down on the paper is. I think I've gotten better over one weekend lol

Before....

Some drawings from last week. Now after reaching an revelation on the weekend...-suspense music-
